When our administration touts that we're fighting the war over there so we don't have to over here, I think they forget that Americans are Americans. Is a soldier's life worth less than somebody walking down the streets in NYC? Every loss of life is just as tragic. Good article.

Listening to what they say, and watching what they do, I find it hard to believe that they're forgetting that American soldiers are Americans. Rather, I think they realize that terrorists can kill a lot fewer Americans when they're attacking a group of alert, trained, armed, and equipped soldiers than they can when they're left to plot the coordinated murder of thousands of civilians.

I also think they realize that, while any loss of life is an enormous tragedy, most Americans (including soldiers) share the view which has been historically accepted by all nations, races, and creeds that I can recall ever learning of--that although each life is as precious as any other, the death of a civilian at the hands of militants is more tragic than the death of a man who has signed up to fight to protect those civilians.
